Gary’s 1st Social Nudism Trip to Kaniksu Family Nudist Resort

Social Nudism

One of our everyday nudist friends Gary emailed me a few weeks back and wanted to know if I was interested in hearing about his first trip to a nudist resort, and social nudism as a whole, which happens to be one of my favorites: Kaniksu Family Nudist Resort.

I am always up for hearing about people’s first trip trying out social nudism (contact everyday nudist at our email at the end of this blog). Social nudism is a lot different than going around the house, or back yard naked; however, I find more times than not, people are really surprised at how it went and normally book another trip…or immediately, start looking for the next place to go. Want to read about my first social nudist experience I had in 1999? Check out one of my very first blog posts titled “My First Nudist Experience” from April 1, 2020.

Gary is no different.

Below is Gary’s story, and at the end I will highlight a few parts I think are important.

From Gary:

“For years I had always wanted to try a nudist resort.  Sort of a bucket list item.  I finally decided to broach the subject with my wife.  Initially, she thought I was nuts.  After much discussion, she agreed to give it a shot with me, as a birthday present.

I did some research and determined that the Kaniksu Ranch was the closest and most accessible place.  I called, literally months in advance, and has several conversations with the woman in the office.  It felt as if I was overwhelming her with questions, but she was quite patient and very informative.  Personal note, right after I had booked a room, my wife broke her ankle.  When I called to cancel, the woman told me they have an accessible cabin near the office, and rebooked our reservations there.

All in all they could not have been more friendly or accommodating.  There was even a person that agreed to meet us late on a Friday night so we could drive over after work. He gave us directions and quickly checked us in upon arrival, telling us we would do the orientation and paperwork in the morning.

The next morning I woke up early, and decided the heck with it, I going to explore the grounds and do it naked.  It took all the courage I had to walk out of the cabin naked.  Guess what?  It was early and no one was up.  I walked around the grounds near the office, then went in the office and started some coffee.  Decided I would go in the sauna as it was a little chilly out. I figured out how to turn the sauna on, but couldn’t figure out how to turn the lights on. Lol.

As I was coming out of the sauna door, I literally ran into a woman getting into the shower.  My first experience with being naked and interacting with a naked woman.  It felt as if my heart lept into my throat.  My mind was racing.  What do I say, where do I look, please God don’t let me get an erection!  We talked for a couple minutes, then she went in the sauna and turned on the lights.  I was so nervous.  I would stare at the top of her forehead and for some unknown reason kept saying I’m sorry.  She finally said why do you keep saying that, are you Canadian?

Lmao!  That broke the ice.  We both had a good laugh.  She got in the shower and I got in the Sauna. When she finished she came in the sauna and we talked for maybe 20 min.   All nerves gone.

I can literally tell hundreds of stories about meeting new people while we were all naked.  Suffice it to say after that first encounter, nothing was awkward, no nerves at all.  We met people from all over the country and enjoyed their company.  That evening we participated in a progressive dinner then karaoke in the lodge.  Had an amazing time and met several new friends.

I can honestly say this was the most relaxing vacation I had taken in decades!   I don’t know how to describe it.  It seems like when I’m wearing clothes I am always assuming that people are looking at me and judging me.  When we were all naked, I didn’t feel that at all.  Make or female, it didn’t matter.  It was just totally relaxed, laid back, and completely comfortable.”

My thoughts

Gary’s trip is like most that I talk to. Excited yet nervous.

There is a ton of internal thoughts and conversations that go through your head and can be quite intimidating when you first arrive, especially if there are a lot of people there.

Notice how he mentioned he got up the courage to go outside naked. Believe it or not, nudity isn’t a normal thing for 98% of the population, so yes it takes a little courage to say f’k it I AM DOING IT! I feel this internal courage to take a leap and walk around in your most vulnerable state a person can be in, naked, carries over in other areas of life.

I got a real chuckle when Gary talks about running into his first woman naked. A mixture of where do I look, what do I say, or sweet baby Jesus don’t let me get an erection. The nervous apologies and just sheer awkwardness; however, look at the shift once they sat in the sauna and talked. No nervousness, no awkwardness, just two adults having a conversation.

Look let’s be honest. Men look at women, women look at men. Men look at other men, women look at other women. It is human nature and besides you are nude. The difference is looking verses staring. Look. Enjoy the natural body in all shapes and sizes, flaws and all. Just don’t do two things:

1. Stare.

2. Comment (complement, degrade, etc.).

My favorite Part

My favorite sentence out of the entire story is this “I can honestly say this was the most relaxing vacation I had taken in decades!”.

I don’t know how old Gary is, but if you put decades means he has probably taken a vacation or 20.

For this to me the most relaxing vacation shows the power of nudism, and the nudist/naturist community. For the most part (like 97% of the people) are friendly, outgoing, accommodating, and just nice to be around. Especially, if they find out it is your first trip, word will spread (in a good way) around the resort and people will go out of their way to welcome you and make you feel at home.

After all, we are a small community of likeminded people who enjoy the clothing optional lifestyle and we want those that show an interest in it to join us and stay a while.

Do you remember your first social nudism trip? I would be interested in knowing if you had the same types of feelings Gary had, and what your overall experience was like.

Thanks Gary for sharing your story with the everyday nudist family and hope to meet you and your wife at Kaniksu Family Nudist Resort next summer!
