Service to others
The other day I was scrolling endlessly through YouTube and came across a video of Duane “The Rock” Johnson getting an award. During his speech he said a quote from Muhammad Ali, arguably the greatest boxer of all time, that was powerful. So powerful, I grabbed my phone to capture it so I could write my thoughts about it.
Muhammad Ali once said, “the service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”
That is well worth a second read “the service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.”
Days of Service in the US
Here in the United States, we have two “days of service”. The first was inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and on MLK Day, 20 Jan, which is a national holiday here in the US, it is also deemed a day of service. The second, is 11 Sept which was inspired after the 9/11/01 terror attacks on US soil.
However, do we really need a day of service to pay our rent for our time on earth? No.
Think about what the world would look like if we all spent just a little bit of time in service to others.
Yeah But I am Too Busy
Now I get it, many of you are thinking “yeah I would love to Ryan but I am way too busy”. Understandable, we have become a world of “busy” people.
But, what if you could spend just 30 minutes a month helping a neighbor in need? How about carving out 1 hour a month to spend at a food panty, or church that supports those in need, or feeds people.
Do you have an hour every couple of months to donate blood which could literally save someone’s life?
What about a simple 45 seconds to help an elderly person, or someone with a disability that is struggling to put their grocery’s in their car?
We don’t need to be full time volunteers, donating every minute of our available time to support others, or make this huge profound effort. We just need to make time. The world needs more empathy and compassion, and small acts can be just the ticket we need.
The Potential Impact of the Everyday Nudist Community on the World
Check this out, what if everyone reading this (which will be about 2,500 people or more) donated just 1 hour a month to the service of others. That would be 30,000 hours in just one year, or in easier terms, 1,250 days of service. Even if you can’t do 1 hour a month, I know you could squeeze in 1 hour every two months. That would be 1,500 hours or 625 days of service.
DAYUMMMMMMMMM. Close your eyes for a second and imagine the impact the nudist community (which is about 95% of our readers) could make across the globe.
30,000 hours of service!!
Personal Impact of Service/Volunteerism
And not only do you impact the lives of others (to an extent you will never fully realize), according to Western Connecticut State University, volunteering is good for your mind in body. It is a three-prong approach: it increases self-confidence, combats depression, and helps you stay physically healthy.
I am lucky to be able to volunteer my time with 3 (sometimes 4) different organizations that mean a lot to me. I can tell you that I get the added benefit of all three things listed above. Some months I get an hour in all 4, other months, I don’t get any time in. It is all about finding balance.
The key though is finding organizations, or events, that you are passionate about. It has to be enjoyable. Hell, not sure what you like? This is a great time to start exploring. Worst case, find an animal shelter and go pet dogs for an hour!
Are you In?
Are you a volunteer? If not, have you considered how you can be of service to others?
If so, I would love for you to email me next month and let me know if you spent time in service, what you did, and how you felt doing it. You can email me at everydaynudist@gmail.com.
I would love to be able to do a follow up blog to highlight the amount of hours the Everyday Nudist family spent helping others, and just how powerful our nudist community really is.
In your corner, and in service of others.
Ryan
