Naked Yoga and Why You Should Try It

By now most people know the benefits of yoga:

– Improved strength, balance, flexibility and range of motion

– Increased connection of the body and self

– Reduced stress and anxiety and help you sleep better

– Promotes mindfulness and present-moment awareness

– Help with back pain

However, what if you tried yoga naked?

Here are a few reasons you should consider giving it a shot.

Less restriction: Have you ever tried getting into some of those poses while wearing clothes? At least for some of us men, and I am sure ladies as well, some of those poses can actually result in being uncomfortable. However, removing clothes allows for greater freedom and nothing gets pinched, or well, the uncomfortable wedgie.

Body Acceptance: Being a nudist is one of the greatest forms of body acceptance there is. No matter your body size, being nude allows you to fully accept who you are, and how you are. Trust me, I have put on 25 lbs which all went to my gut, however, when I am nude it allows me to accept myself as I am. I mean think about it, how much time do you spend trying to find the right clothes to hide your body (both good and bad)?  Besides, being unapologetically free brings a new sense of being to your soul.

Self-Growth: A large part of our journey in life is self-growth. One way to grow internally is to let go of all the societal norms that are placed on us, and well, sometimes doing something that is uncomfortable at first. Nude yoga is one of them. By placing yourself in one of the most vulnerable positions you can be in (completely naked), it allows you to become comfortable in yourself at an intimate level.

Boost in Self-Confidence: When you combine nudism and the health benefits of yoga it will provide a true boost in your self-confidence. You will begin to feel better and look better, which will drive you to continue on. Maybe even add a little swag in your step the more you keep going! Sensual: Lets just call a spade a spade: naked yoga is sexy. However, part of this sexiness is the sensuality of being naked in a variety of positions, but most importantly, the mind-body connection you experience. Also, like nudism as whole, being naked either alone or in a group brings an intimacy not matched by wearing clothes. Also, free flowing of your body, and the touch to your bare skin helps to connect with your true inner-self.

Not in shape for Yoga? Is your first thought “sounds cool Ryan but I am in no shape for yoga”…don’t worry, neither am I. Hell, I have 3 bulging discs in my neck, a herniated disc at my L5/S1, can’t feel my full right foot for the last 17 years and a host of other ailments literally from head to toe.

The good thing about yoga is that everything is scaled to your capabilities. Start with a beginner class, do chair yoga, or research the best yoga for your ailments. There is plenty of information online.

Don’t want to do social nude yoga, but want to try it out? While doing some research for this blog I came across a site called True Naked Yoga where they have a ton of instructor led nude videos that you can follow along with nude with the instructor. It is about $12 a month but they have a free trial and think I am going to give it a go and start doing it on a regular basis. Note: this is not a paid endorsement, nor do I get any money if you sign up.

For many the dreaded winter is coming so now is a great time to start. Carve out just 20 minutes a day!
