internet nudist vs. in person nudist: My take on the variants of online verses in person.
In today’s day and age there are varying types of nudist groups you see on the internet.
As a long time nudist, both at home and social, I thought I would take some time and break down the varying types of nudist you will find.
This is online verses social (resort or group nudist). Nudist beaches are hard because you get a combination of nudist, exhibitionist, and gawkers so they can be hard to put in a group.
Reason I am going this is because people who have never done the social nudist thing can get confused. Or they turn to the internet, type in “nudist” and it is porn sites.
This confusion can often turn people off to the idea. It continues the stigma that nudist are swingers and models; ultimately, missing out on the true joy nudism offer.
So without further due, here we go with the internet nudist.
Genital Only Nudist
These are the types of people that will flood internet nudist groups and show nothing but a close up of their genitals. Like so close, you often want to respond to them and let them know they missed a spot shaving.
This isn’t nudism. Sure, they are nude, but only want you to see their penis or vagina.
At a minimum, I would love to see a full body nude even if you blur your face, much like you see what I do with Jessica as she doesn’t want her face show (and I respect that).
Leg Spread Wide Open Nudist
Trust me when I tell you it feels amazing to have sun on your genital area, there is a difference between spreading your legs and SPREADDDDIIINNNN your legs.
I think some of this goes on intent (i.e. feel good and sun your inner thighs or show be an exhibitionist). I have seen both online and in person.
Personally, I think most in person spreaders like the feeling of being free and how good it feels for direct sunlight and don’t always do it sexually. When alone, or not around groups of people I will for sure spread wide and enjoy the feeling!
Public sex “nudist”
These are the types you see openly masturbating, or conducting sex acts on a beach, resort, or gathering.
This isn’t nudism, this is swinging or exhibitionist. They just happen to be on a nude beach and are naked.
This occurs but just understand this is a different category.
Also, there are lifestyle friendly nudist resorts. Or in lament terms, a swingers resort that allows you to be nude outside your room. This isn’t nudism by AANR terms, it is only “nudist” because you can be naked.
To read about AANR and what they stand for I encourage you (after you are done with this of course ;)) to check out their website here.
Male Erection Close Up
In every group you go to you will find 1,000 men showing off their erections up close.
Congrats my friend, you have a nice dick (or in many cases you don’t but want to feel good) but you aren’t a nudist.
This is a huge turn off to many nudist and would be nudist as they think we are just a bunch of guys that walk around erect and want to put in your face to see up close.
We aren’t that way, so scratch them off the nudist list.
Young Model Type Men and Women
I saw recently an article that said the average age of a nudist resort goer is 55; however, I have seen over the last several years the younger generation showing up. Keep coming, or getting started.
What you see at a nudist resort, event, or gathering is real people in all shapes and sizes. Each person that goes nude, in my opinion, is a beautiful soul no matter their size.
Nudist are fans of the human body naked, however, don’t stay home because you think it is all models and you will stick out for not being in shape and having “flaws”.
We love your flaws and support you 100% JUST AS YOU ARE.
Don’t wait until you lose weight, hit the gym, do whatever you say you need to do, because trust me…1. No one cares and 2. You will never get to where you want to be as you will find something else “wrong” that you need to make better before you can be nude in front of others.
Real nudists support you just as you are right now. Besides, most people I know that hesitated for years kick themselves for not doing it sooner. Don’t let that be you.
Judgmental Nudist
These are the keyboard warrior nudist that feel that they must tell you how to live your life, what you are doing right, or wrong, and have an opinion on your body.
Many will often tell you how good you look, or how sexy a particular body part is of yours and what they would love to do to it.
This often leads to the misconception that if you go to a resort, or group setting, people will come up to you and tell you how great your butt looks, or that they would love to xxx your xxx.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, if you go to a AANR or TNS affiliated resort or group, it is the fastest way to end your trip and be sent home without ever being welcome again.
This isn’t how nudist role. Just because they are naked, doesn’t mean they are easy or they are looking for sex.
Shocker alert: some people love to be naked and NOT have sex. I know I know, shocking!
So if you are worried that you will be addressed like this, don’t be. If you are, tell them to simply shut the fuck up and go away, then tell a staff member. This is NOT acceptable one ounce.
Real Life Nudist
For the 90% (yes not every nudist is this way, however the majority beat the minority) you will be treated with respect.
You will find that people will talk to you naked and not think twice about it. If you are new, you will be greeted by many of the regulars. This isn’t to feel you out to toss a pick up line later, this is a genuine gesture that nudist do.
If it is your first time, or first time to the resort/event, they want you to feel welcome and part of the group. Whether you know anyone or not, you are part of the community.
On occasion you may see an erection. It isn’t sexual, males get erections. I will be doing a blog shortly on that but for now, just know it isn’t like the internet.
Are there swingers and exhibitionist at resorts and events, well yeah. However, they take it behind closed doors. Just be careful, watch out for “lifestyle friendly nudist resort” as those are swinger resorts with open, public sex.
Not all nudist are the same. However, don’t think you have to talk to anyone, hang out and make friends, be super fit and young…just know, we are normal, everyday people from all walks of life.
We have one thing in common: we enjoy being naked (or partially).
Also, if you are new and not sure don’t worry. Find a clothing optional resort or gathering and go at your pace. If it is a must be nude place, get a sarong and wear it. Being nude should be on your terms and it is crucial you have a good experience, so go at your pace and when you are ready (and when you are ready) then remove a piece (s).
Still really nervous as you don’t know what to expect and your mind is playing out a huge story? Let me help put you at ease with this blog on what you can expect at your first nudist experiance.
I hope this has helped you understand some of the differences between internet nudist and real-life nudist; ultimatley, changing a misguided perception you may have had.

Thank you so much for this extremely informative article!! I know this isn’t important, but I’m a gay male that really wants to experience a nudist environment that isn’t sex driven!! The reason I’m sharing that specific information is because when I see the gay, male “on-line nudist” most of it seems to be sex driven; which is NOT what I desire!! I’m relieved that there are people/communities that just enjoy the company and freedom of a textile free lifestyle!!
Hey man you are important just how you are! I am a bisexual male so I understand as I look at both types of nudist sites and you are correct, many of them are swinger or sexually driven. I have been around many gays and lesbians and they fit right in. Most (and I say most as there are always a few) are very non-judgemental, they just want you to be a part of the community! There are a lot of closet LGBT+ folks that are so don’t worry. Find a cool group and go check them out and if you fit in stay, if not, just roll out..that is what I do. Thanks for the read and the comment!
In person nudist meetup. People’s Park, Spokane, WA. Tuesday August 2, 2 PM at the parking lot.
Some of those sites on your “Please Share This” list do not allow naked images, and tend to ban accounts that share nudity. Twitter, Facebook are two anti-nude censor sites for example. For that reason I have moved my nudist discussions to MeWe. They are nudist friendly.
If you can edit your “please share” list, how about adding nudist friendly sites like MeWe and moving the anti-nude sites to the end of the list.
Well Facebook for sure is anti-nudity, I have had my Twitter page for a while and outside of them marking me with a warning for being nude (although many porn isn’t marked go figure) I can reach a decent audience there and on the Reddit sites that are just nudes. I have a MeWe account but hardly ever go there. I think I am on your group, I will have to log back in and check it out 🙂
Ok this is great I find friendly people who like to talk about themselves and about what you do it helps to go as a couple because people are less threatened by that although usually open to singles who behave yes people will look at you just like they would if you had clothes on but if you expect wolf whistles or hollering it won’t happen I think everyone should try it at least once and yes go slow if you think that it will help but I think you will find if you will be confident in your skin right away just because everyone else is
Prior to being married I joined the Southern California Naturist Association as a single male and went to events alone, and have gone to our local nudist resort alone. Also, have been to events with a lot of single males and females. Most of it depends on the group, or place you are wanting to go. I agree everyone should give it a shot, or at least of you are interested in trying it!

Well Said!!! I Have Been An AANR Nudist Since 1988 (Originally) ASA/WSA…
Been Going To Black’s Beach, San Onofre, Glen Eden Sun Club, Olive Dell Ranch And Many That No Longer Exist Since Mid 80’s…
You Nailed With Comparison To Nude Beaches, You Get A Combination Of Everything At Black’s… One Of The First Things People Ask Me About Black’s Is Seeing Any Action Or Getting Action, I Ask Them To Specify… Sex Is Their Answer… 100% Of The Time People Believe Nudity Equals Sex, If You’re Naked At The Beach It Means You Have Sex, I Quickly Tell Them Sex In Public Is An Arrestable Offense And You Will Be Charged With A Public Sex Crime… I Also Explain That Is A Quick Way To Get A Nude Beach Shut Down…
Some Get It Some Do Not…
One Woman From Arizona Tried Assuring Me That Sex On The Beach At Black’s Is 100% Legal, Everyone Does It, Including Her And Her Husband…
Some Don’t Get It And Never Will…
I Hope The Younger Generation Embrace A Social Nudity Like The Did Decades Prior…
Some Resorts Say They Are Not…
I agree completly. I lived in San Diego from 2002-2010 and went to Blacks a ton and the gwakers go to the point of frustration that I would drive up to San O where they were a lot less. I think instinctively most people go to a sexual mindset, or a “I could never do that” and it is because they have never experianced it, or, they find porn/public exhiblitionist online and that is what fuel the conversation in their head. If they found legit nudism, with normal everyday people it would start to change perspective. People think nudist are really old, or are swingers and discount the other 98% of us.
